Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the music from ballet, provoked a scandal in Paris
On 18th and 19th of November Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the ballet music of Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring." The world premiere took place in Paris and entered the history of art as one of the biggest scandals. In Novosibirsk music from ballet will be conducted by Gintaras Rinkevicius.
On 18th and 19th of November in the framework of the subscription of Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the music of the ballet "The Rite of Spring" by Stravinsky and Concerto for Piano and Orchestra №3 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Soloist is Yevgeny Mikhailov (Moscow), conductor is Gintaras Rinkevicius – artistic director and chief conductor of the Orchestra.
Music of the ballet "The Rite of Spring" and its first performance became a real revolution. The world premiere was held at the Theatre des Champs Elysees in 1913 in Paris and entered the history of music as one of the biggest scandals. World of pagan Russia, presented on the stage, the dancers angular movement, far from the ideas of classical ballet, innovative music, which primary means of expression was the rhythm - all this shocked the audience.
”Excitement and screams reached a paroxysm. People whistled, reviled artists and composer, shouted, laughed, - recalls the ballerina Romola Pulska - I was stunned by this infernal noise, and as soon as I could, rushed backstage. There everything was just as bad as in the hall. The dancers were shaking, tears kept. Long monthly work on creating the composition, endless rehearsals finally lead to this mess”.
World premiere of the ballet "The Rite of Spring" has been carried out by company "Russian Seasons" of Sergei Diaghilev, choreographer was Vaslav Nijinsky, the author of the costumes and the libretto was Nicholas Roerich. Music by Stravinsky opened a new page in the history of world music, as well as choreography by Nijinsky revolutionized the art of ballet. "The Rite of Spring" is one of the most significant works in the history of world art, opened a new dimension and a new way for artists of the XX century.
The performing of ballet music is a real test for both orchestra and conductor. It requires a high level of skill. Upcoming concerts is an important event for the collective, because this score is not performed that often. Last time it was performed by Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009.
The program of music by Stravinsky and Beethoven performed by Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra will sound on November 18th in the House of Scientists, on November 19th - in Arnold Kats State Concert Hall. Before the concert at the Round stage of Kats Concert Hall there will introductory lecture for the audience, the beginning is at 17.15, lecturer is Honored Artist of Russia, artistic director of Novosibirsk State Philharmonic Society Vladimir Kaluzhsky.
