Three hundred-year-old Stradivari cello will sound in Novosibirsk on the Trans-Siberian Art Festival

On March 19, Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez will perform at Arnold Kats State Concert Hall with Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Lio Kuokman. The musician will perform Haydn Concerto for cello and orchestra on a unique instrument made by the legendary master Antonio Stradivari in 1696. The concert will be on the soloist’s birthday. Also in the program there will be Overture to Glinka's opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila" and Symphony No. 5 by Tchaikovsky. The performance will be held within the framework of Vadim Repin’s fifth Trans-Siberian Art Festival. Pablo Ferrandez and Lio Kuokman will take part in other programs of the festival in Moscow, Novosibirsk and Berdsk.

The program named "Double charm" included works written by composers of Austria and Russia. Its main hero, according to the idea of the organizers, will be Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the basic collective of Trans-Siberian Art Festival from the very first days of the project's existence. The fifth symphony by Tchaikovsky was chosen for performance, as it is a kind of visiting card of the Novosibirsk collective.

Pablo Ferrandez will perform in the program on his birthday. Laureate of many prestigious competitions, he is known to the Russian public first of all for his victory at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015 (the winner of the IV prize). Today he is a musician in demand all over the world, performing with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Zubin Meta, Gidon Kremer. Among his stage partners are the orchestras of the Mariinsky Theater, the Vienna Opera, the Stuttgart Symphony, the Kremerata Baltica Orchestra and many others. The musician plays on the instrument of Antonio Stradivari "Lord Aylesford" (1696). A unique cello was made a hundred years before Haydn wrote a concert that Pablo Ferrandez will perform on it in Novosibirsk.

For the console of the orchestra this evening will be Lio Kuokman, the conductor, famous after his victory at the prestigious Yevgeny Svetlanov Competition in Paris. Today he works with leading groups around the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio Orchestra of France, the Philharmonic of Seoul, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and many others. The high status of the young maestro is confirmed by invitations to perform at government level events: so Lio Kuokman conducted the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra at a gala concert in the presence of President of the Republic of China Xi Jinping. At the invitation of Valery Gergiev, the musician worked at the Mariinsky Theater. Critics marks his "amazing conductor's talent" and "a wonderful sense of control."

Before performing in Novosibirsk, Lio Kuokman is conducting a concert of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in the legendary Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory: on March 14, Vadim Repin will perform a program with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic. March 22, also as part of the festival, the conductor will have one more concert in Novosibirsk: the music of Glass and Beethoven will be performed by Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists Gidon Kremer (violin, Latvia) and Giedre Dirvanauskaite (cello, Lithuania).

In the framework of Trans-Siberian Art Festival, Pablo Ferrandez will also appear on stage in several concerts: on March 11 at Arnold Kats State Concert Hall in Novosibirsk and on March 12 in Berdsk he will take part in the program “Vadim Repin and Friends”. There will be masterpieces of romantic chamber music presented in this concert.

The concerts of the fifth Trans-Siberian Art Festival, headed by Vadim Repin, will be held from March to July 2018. The Russian part of the Festival will sound from March 9 to May 13 and will include Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Samara in its route. By tradition, small towns of the Novosibirsk region will not be left without attention, the list of which has expanded significantly this year: Berdsk, Akademgorodok, Krasnozyorskoe, Toguchin, Karasuk. The foreign part of the route will take place in the USA and Japan in June and July.

The key point in the geography of the festival is Novosibirsk - the hometown of the artistic director of the project. One of the key participants in the project is Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra. Vadim Repin repeatedly stressed the decisive role played by the collectivein implementing the idea of ​​the Trans-Siberian Art Festival. The main venue of the festival always remains the Arnold Kats State Concert Hall - the new Philharmonic Hall opened in 2013 and, according to Vadim Repin, has become one of the necessary conditions for the implementation of the idea of ​​the festival.
