Big hall for concerts of classical music is opened today in Novosibirsk first in the history of our city

Today, September 11, ceremonial opening of Arnold Kats State Concert Hall will take place. It will be the first place of such capaciousness built specifically for concerts of classical music.

Novosibirsk Philharmonic orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov will perform at the concert-opening. The world-famous violinist Vadim Repin will play solo. In the program: Overture to the opera “Force of the destiny” by G.Verdi, Concert for violin and orchestra by M.Bruch, Symphony 4 by P.Tchaikovsky.

On September 13 the philharmonic society invites spectators to come to Arnold Kats State Concert Hall where the new concert season will be presented. It will be full of interesting events because there is a new hall in the city.

In October in the new hall the part of the XV Festival of Russian music «Pokrov autumn» will be held. In December the Philharmonics organizes the musical part of the X International Christmas Festival of Arts, where Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Jean-Luc Ponty, Boris Berezovsky, Nigel Kennedy and other famous musicians will take part. In April the First international music festival under the artistic direction of Vadim Repin will be realized in Novosibirsk. The event «Night of Museums» that already became a tradition, next year will also be held at the new venue. The direction of the Philharmonics will consider the possibility of getting concerts in the foyer, in the café with a round stage and on the roof. The Big Hall of Novosibirsk State Philharmonic society was closed for reconstruction in spring 2008. On 14 May 2013 the ceremony of delivery of the new Arnold Kats State Concert Hall to philharmonic musicians took place. The total area of Arnold Kats State Concert Hall is 21,5 thousand square meters, the hall has a capacity for 1,100 spectators, including people with disabilities. The new concert hall is located on Sverdlov Square at Krasny Prospect, 18.

Arnold Kats (18.09.1924–22.01.2007) founded Novosibirsk Philharmonic orchestra in 1956. For 50 years he was a permanent artistic director and principal conductor. Holder of the Order «For Services to the Fatherland of II and III degree”, Knight of the “Order of Peter the Great of I degree», Laureate of the State Prize of Russia, People's Artist of the USSR, Professor, Honorary resident of Novosibirsk.
