The International Festival Sib Jazz Fest finished in Novosibirsk with grandiose jam session

On 22nd of October International Festival Sib Jazz Fest finished with a grandiose jam session at the informal venue of Arnold Kats State Concert Hall. Along with the musicians from jazz collectives of Novosibirsk Philharmonic the stars of the festival Benjamin Herman (Netherlands), Tony Kofi and musicians of his quartet (United Kingdom), the French hip-hop jazz trio Sax Machine participated in jam session.

On 22nd of October the final jam session of the festival Sib Jazz Fest gathered about 600 people in Arnold Kats State Concert Hall. Jam session is a traditional format, which end Philharmonic Jazz Festival since 2009. Its specific feature is not predetermination program: both philharmonic collective’s musicians and guest stars meet on the stage. Different styles are mixed in their performance, everyone has the opportunity to perform solo and demonstrate their skills. Along with the musicians of Jazz Orchestra "Siberian Dixieland" and Vladimir Tolkachev Big Band Benjamin Herman (Netherlands), Tony Kofi and musicians of his quartet (United Kingdom), the French hip-hop jazz trio Sax Machine participated in jam session.

"The festival Sib Jazz Fest presented program of the European standard, - said Cyril Moshkov, chief editor of “Jazz.ru” magazine, who was the representative of the festival concerts - Jazz art currently has the whole tree of musical styles as the basis, as a powerful stem. All this wide range was presented at Sib Jazz Fest. This is one of the most prominent festivals in Russia by the balance of its program, by how different and how bright the phenomenon it represents. There is no headliner and "trailer". Each concert is interesting, but in the complex they all give a very broad view of the current state of music, related to jazz, and also of the jazz itself".

The international festival Sib Jazz Fest was held in Arnold Kats State Concert Hall from 20th to 22nd of October. The biggest jazz project in Siberia, organized by Novosibirsk Philharmonic, for the sixth time gathered on one stage the brightest representatives of jazz art from all over the world. 

During the three days of the festival nine concerts with the participation of world jazz stars from six countries and the leading Russian performers and jazz collectives of Novosibirsk Philharmonic were held. Both classic and avant-garde jazz and jazz combined with klezmer, hop-hop, contemporary classical music will sounded in their performance. 

Sib Jazz Fest is one of the few Russian jazz festivals, which program is composed entirely of foreign-stars performances, who come to the stage both with their own and Novosibirsk collectives. Among the invited artists this year there is Polish accordion trio Motion, marked by collaboration with Michael Nyman and Krzysztof Penderecki, "Best Dressed Dutch of 2008" according to Esquire saxophonist Benjamin Herman, presented the program with Vladimir Tolkachev Big-Band, American jazz singer Sylvia Howard, performed with Jazz Orchestra “Siberian Dixieland”. The festival stage also accepted Amsterdam Klezmer Band, French trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo and his trio, hip-hop jazz trio Sax Machine, Saint-Petersburg trio “Good Evening”, saxophonist Tony Kofi and his quartet, devoted its program to Ornette Coleman.

Internationally renowned jazz collective of Philharmonic – Vladimir Tolkachev Big Band and jazz orchestra "Siberian Dixieland" traditionally perform together with the stars of the festival.

First time in the history of the Festival in most concerts sound engineers from abroad worked at audio remote control, among them there was Andreas Adelhofer, who is marked by the cooperation with such stars as Joe Cocker, ZZ Top and Backstreet Boys. A master class, which Andreas Adelhofer held for his colleagues from the Siberian region, was a special event in the program of the festival.

Each day of the festival presented three concerts. Two of them were on the main stage of Arnold Kats State Concert Hall, the final were in the Jazz Loft, which perfectly recreates the informal atmosphere of a jazz club.

The organizer of the festival is Novosibirsk State Philharmonic Society. Partners of the festival are VTB24, public company Moscow Exchange, jazz club "Truba". Motion Trio concert was supported by Polish Culture Centre in Moscow and Ltd "Bella Siberia" (cosmetics and hygiene products for the whole family).
